Is there a way to do something equivalent to Emacs' SML-mode in vim?

Nice features would be:

  • Split-window development, with the code in one split, the interpreter in another split.
  • Support for easily (through a hotkey or similar) executing a given line of code, selection or similar.

If you want this, you might as well take a look at emacs. Vim is not an IDE.

(this coming from a long time Vim user!)

Maybe, but instead of just stating that, you could at least point us all in the direction of a sensible setup where Vim is not exclusively used for paging and editing of files and directories. I have yet to see one...

Not exactly similar to what Emacs does, but what i do, is use Vim's make-function. I've mapped enter as follows

map <C-M> :make<CR><CR>

and then i've added

autocmd FileType sml setlocal makeprg=mosml\ -P\ full\ '%'

which just executes your current file.
