Yes you can!

  1. Download and install the app PrintBot from the market. The basic version is free but is limited to 3 prints/month of up to 1MB a piece. Paid version is ~25 DKK and lifts all restrictions.
  2. Open the app. Enter 'Network Connection' and select IPP as protocol and enter these values: HOST: print.diku.dk, Printer Queue: m1b (or your desired printer. Click here for available printers.). Click OK. PrintBot Settings

  3. Enter 'Printer' and select the model for your desired printer, also available at the above link.

  4. ???
  5. PROFIT! Click 'Print test page' and the printer should spit out a test page.

Note: You need an active WIFI connection to print.

Note 2: If anyone knows of a free app supporting IPP and without the above restrictions, please add a comment!

Any ETA on potential release?

I just coded up a quick little application called DIKUPrint, which does exactly this.

It can be downloaded either through this link or, if you have a barcode scanner, through this QR code:

Download link

It should be pretty easy to use:

  • Open the file you wish to print in some sort of viewer. (PDF viewer, image viewer, whatever is appropriate.)
  • Use the "Share" functionality to bring up the sharing menu.
  • Pick DIKUPrint from the list.
  • Pick the printer you want to print on.
  • Click print.

No guarantees are provided with this program; it may very well mess up trying to print some file formats, but I have tested it to work with both pdf and png, and I'd assume it'd work with ps and jpeg, as well.

Latest version: 1.1 (Updated on 2012-01-11)

Changelog:

1.1

  • Add notifications.
  • Make printing run as a background service.

1.0

  • Initial release

Why can't I find it on github?

@Martin: Good question. I'm kind of wary of putting the app on Google Play and GitHub, as it allows anyone to print on DIKU without needing to do any sort of authentication. I could set up a private repo and share that if desired.
